Gioia’s Deli

Ciao! We have returned for our 26th episode of #CarryoutComedy, it is hard to believe that we have already been doing this segment for a half-year now, but here we are. This time, we are going back to The Hill, to get some of the best sandwiches in town at Gioia's (pronounced joyous) Deli. Across the street (Macklind Ave) from Berra Park, this deli has been around since 1918, so we were very interested to see how a business that has survived 2 pandemics is now operating. We started by going online to order (new feature), but you can also just walk in and place it (classic!). For pickup, they have a window on the backside of the building, down Daggett Ave (which all of the cool kids refer to as Angry Beaver street, of course). For our order, we went with the Hot Salami (w/ provel, pepperoncini, onion, and spicy mustard) + a Pibb Xtra (BTW: what is the deal with that, like what happened to Mr. Pibb? We looked it up, and apparently way back in 2001, they had a recipe update that added cinnamon to the mix, which prompted the name change, so now you know what the Xtra stands for). Anywho, we thought the soda paired well with the sandwich, and now that we really think about it, anything would pair well with it. It's one of the best, if not the best (depending on who you ask) sandwiches in the area, and they certainly aren't lacking in that department on the rest of their menu. We are very thankful to have establishments like Gioia's in St. Louis, and look forward to many more Hot Salami summer days. Peace!
